People are getting bored and playing ~~board~~ bored games.

As the coronavirus lockdowns drag on, Americans have been spending their time and money on jigsaw puzzles.

Ravensburger, a game and toy company, has seen US puzzle sales soar 370% year over year in the past few weeks.

  • In 2019, the company recorded an average rate of seven puzzles sold every minute in North America
  • The company is now averaging closer to 20 puzzles per minute for 2020

“Puzzles are not a necessity, of course, but the consumer is clearly telling us that there’s a large need that we can help fill,” said Ravensburger’s North America CEO Filip Francke.

There has been a puzzling rise in demand for jigsaw puzzles across the board, and companies across the country are struggling to meet it. Online retailer Puzzle Warehouse hired 30 people to deal with a 10-fold increase in orders.

  • Puzzle Warehouse’s sales have already exceeded those typically seen during Christmas

Mental health experts say doing puzzles or playing board games with family can help create endorphins. If you haven’t already, they suggest you may want to give jigsaw puzzles a try.

It might just be the missing piece.
