Walmart is dipping its toe into the fashion resale market with ThredUp, an e-commerce company that buys and sells secondhand clothes, shoes, and accessories.
You can now browse thousands of pre-owned items on Walmartâs website â and if you spend $35 or more, you can get free shipping from Walmart. Plus, if your purchase doesnât work out, you can easily return the item at a nearby store.
For Walmart, the deal with ThredUp is a way to expand its online fashion offerings and get in on the sustainability trend. And it couldnât have come at a better time. Many clothing retailers have filed for bankruptcy protection or closed some of their stores all together due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Plus, for Walmartâs customers, the lower-priced second-hand brand name clothes may resonate at a time when millions of Americans are unemployed, furloughed, or coping with pay cuts.
For ThredUp, the deal will put the companyâs accessories and clothing in front of a larger audience. âWeâre a small fish compared to Walmart and so the ability to tell our story to a Walmart audience is really powerful,â said ThredUp CEO and co-founder James Reinhart.
A designer label and a Walmart price tag â what more could you ask for?
