The healthiest place on earth

Disney plans to reopen its Florida-based theme parks in July, ending a multi-month closure of the park.

Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom are expected to be the first to reopen on July 11. Then, Epcot and Hollywood Studios will follow on July 15.

Disney plans on limiting attendance significantly — you will be required to purchase tickets in advance.

The Florida parks will also have:

  • Additional handwashing stations
  • Temperature checks
  • Social distancing measures throughout (at restaurants and lines for rides)

It’s the ~~happiest~~ healthiest place on earth!

Reopening the parks poses risks, but keeping it closed could be financially devastating for the company. Disney’s Parks and Experiences unit was hit particularly hard by the outbreak last quarter. The segment’s operating profit fell 58% compared with last year — they lost a billion dollars in profit just a few weeks into the global shutdown.

“We want to make sure what we present to our guests when we open up is going to be a quintessential Disney experience,” said Disney CEO Bob Chapek.

“While we’ll have substantially lower numbers of guests, we want to make sure we do it in a responsible way.”
