Spotify will soon be the exclusive home to one of the most popular podcasts in the US. The company announced Tuesday that it signed “The Joe Rogan Experience” for an exclusive licensing deal worth more than $100 million.
- Following the news, shares of Spotify rose more than 10% before closing up 8.4%
The talk show-style podcast is hosted by comedian Joe Rogan. It was previously unavailable on Spotify, but the company said that “The Joe Rogan Experience” was the most searched for podcasts on its platform.
- On his podcast, Rogan discusses a variety of topics ranging from neuroscience, sports and health to comedy and culture
The deal is another step towards Spotify’s goal of expanding from a humble music streaming service to a diversified audio empire.
The full “Joe Rogan Experience” library, dating back 11 years, will be available on Spotify starting Sept. 1. Before the end of the year, it will become exclusive to the platform.
Spotify users are about to have an A-list playlist.
“We’re going to be working with the same crew doing the exact same show,” Rogan said when he announced the deal on his podcast. “The only difference will be it will now be available on the largest audio platform in the world.”
