McDonald’s sent U.S. franchisees a 59-page guide to reopening dining rooms. Maybe the idea is that it’ll take so long to read the guide that by the time they’ve finished, it’ll be safe to let people in?
Here’s the Sparknotes version of the guide: The fast-food giant is asking operators to enforce social distancing, use protective panels at the counters, and turn off soda fountains if they aren’t able to assign an employee to operate them, along with dozens of other changes.
Clean probably isn’t the first word that comes to mind when you think of a McDonald’s bathroom, but according to the new guidelines, employees must clean the bathrooms, door handles, trash lids, counters, and credit-card machines every 30 minutes.
Plus, McDonald’s said Wednesday it would be chipping in about $100 million to marketing funds pooled by U.S. franchisees. The company is also planning to dole out “targeted financial assistance” to the franchisees hardest hit by the coronavirus.
